KOIKOI is inspired by the beauty of Cape Town, its natural wonders, clean beaches and vibrant lifestyle. We take pride in producing a fully sustainable range clothing with a conscience that improves with every wash and gets better with every wear.

The Beginning

It started the way most good things do, with a feeling.

We were in our third year at Stellenbosch University when we first noticed it. Kikoy sarongs, everywhere. Light, honest fabric with an ease to it that nothing else quite matched. Unmistakably African. We kept asking ourselves the same question: why wasn't anyone making this for men?

So we did.

Fifty Pairs

We designed our first shorts and trousers

Chose our fabric carefully, and had fifty pairs made. They sold out almost immediately. Not through a campaign or a launch strategy, simply because the product was right.

That was enough to know we were onto something.

The Wheelbarrow

We moved to Cape Town and opened our first store

A wooden wheelbarrow at Mojo Market. No lease, no staff, no grand vision of what KOIKOI would become, just a belief in what we were making and the discipline to show up for it.

From that wheelbarrow, everything else followed.

What We're Still Chasing

KOIKOI has grown since those early market days

but the intention hasn't shifted. Clothing that feels effortless. Fabric rooted in Africa. Pieces made to move between a morning on the water and an evening somewhere worth being.

That's still the brief. It always will be.
